New "Vincenzo Florio" station for intermodal services to Trapani Birgi Airport

Design and site supervision by Italferr

The construction site of the new Vincenzo Florio station, a strategic intermodal infrastructure on the Trapani-Castelvetrano railway line, has been officially handed over to the contractor, and, once completed, will finally provide a direct air-rail link between Trapani airport and the national rail network.

The new station will be built on the single-track Trapani-Marsala section of the Palermo-Trapani (via Castelvetrano) main line, and fitted with complementary facilities to ensure accessibility and sustainability, including a vehicle underpass for buses and taxis, at-grade car parks, a roundabout for connecting with the local road network, a pedestrian walkway to the airport and a photovoltaic system to minimise energy impact.

The infrastructure has been designed by Italferr with the aid of latest-generation BIM models, for advanced control of the design and construction phases, and will be integrated into the ERTMS system for safe rail traffic management, and also equipped with an SCC-M multi-station command and control system.

Financed entirely with NRRP funds, the project is slated for completion by July 2026, confirming FS Group's commitment to the construction of modern, sustainable and interconnected infrastructure.
